Two bird-women perched at the edges of the world. On the left, Sirin — dark-feathered, singing sorrow. On the right, Alkonost — bone-pale, singing joy. Between them, the moon witnesses.
Their songs are not meant for mortal ears. Those who hear them do not always return. Those who return do not always speak of it.
From Russian and Slavic folk art tradition — canonical bird-women of the pre-Christian mythological strata. Immortalized by Ivan Bilibin (1905) and Viktor Vasnetsov (1896) in their iconic illustrations. The heraldic symmetry of their pairing is older than both painters. Some say older than writing.
