BABA YAGA · БАБА-ЯГА
The Hut on Fowl's Legs
She came from where the birch forests end. Her hut walked on chicken legs, her mortar crushed paths through moonlight, and her fence was built of bones that still remembered their names.
She is older than Christianity in these lands. Older than the tsars.
She eats some children. She teaches others. There is no reliable way to know which you will be.
Bring her something she wants. Ask your question carefully. Leave before morning.
From the Eastern Slavic folklore tradition — one of the oldest surviving witch-figures in European mythology, predating the Brothers Grimm by centuries. She appears across every Slavic country under different names. The hut is always the same.
