Keeper of the Black Forest
The Leshy walks the pine forests of the old Slavic world. Shepherd of wolves. Misleader of travelers. He wears bark as skin and carries the voice of every tree he has outlived.
In the villages they left bread at the tree-line, turned their coats inside out before entering the woods, and spoke his name softly — or not at all.
The forests have grown larger since then. He is still out there.
A pre-Christian forest spirit of Russian, Belarusian, and Ukrainian folklore. Worshipped long before the churches built to forget him. Some of those churches were built in his clearings.
